Belagavi: Continuous rainfall across the Western Ghats and parts of Belagavi district has significantly increased inflows into major reservoirs, bringing relief after a delayed monsoon and easing concerns over water availability.

The Hidkal reservoir on the Ghataprabha River is currently storing 23.9 tmcft of water, with an inflow of 12,794 cusecs, while the Naviluteertha (Malaprabha) reservoir holds 10.4 tmcft against its 37 tmcft capacity, receiving 5,950 cusecs of inflow.
Heavy rainfall in Khanapur and surrounding areas has also filled the Krishna River and its tributaries, including the Doodhaganga, Vedaganga, and Ghataprabha. The improved water flow has accelerated paddy transplantation in agricultural fields.
Belagavi city’s drinking water source, the Rakaskoppa reservoir, has also recorded improved storage, currently holding 0.3 tmcft out of its 0.5 tmcft capacity.
Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi urged residents to use reservoir water judiciously, prioritizing drinking water needs. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan noted that although the recent rains have improved inflows, reservoir levels remain below expectations due to the delayed monsoon and appealed for responsible water usage.
