The pilot programme will cover students from Classes 9 to 12, with AI offered as an alternative to the third language for Class 9 students. The initiative aims to strengthen digital literacy, logical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills among students.
Of the 142 schools selected, 74 are in Chikodi and 68 in Belagavi. The department is also working on computer facilities, internet connectivity, AI laboratories and curriculum development.

To support the programme, 68 teachers with qualifications in computer science, information technology and related fields are being recruited and will receive regular training.
Officials said the pilot project is expected to be expanded to more government schools in the coming years, helping students prepare for careers in emerging fields such as AI, robotics, data science and software technology.
