The association demanded an increase in the minimum support price of sugar from ₹31 to ₹60 per kg, implementation of the Swaminathan Commission recommendations, and a fair and remunerative price (FRP) of ₹5,500 per tonne for sugarcane supplied by farmers.
Association secretary Sachin Shivannavar said sugarcane farmers play a crucial role in the agricultural economy and the production of sugar and related products. However, rising costs of fertilisers, pesticides, labour, irrigation, transportation and other agricultural inputs have placed a significant financial burden on growers. Uncertainty over remunerative prices has further worsened their difficulties.
Demand for Priority Procurement of Ethanol
Shivannavar urged the Central Government to prioritise and fully procure ethanol produced from sugarcane and maize in Karnataka instead of favouring other states. He also called on the state government to fix and implement the prescribed FRP for sugarcane.

Timely Payments to Farmers Sought
The association further demanded timely payments to sugarcane growers and the establishment of a monitoring mechanism to oversee sugar prices, sugarcane procurement rates and payments made by sugar factories under the FRP framework.
It also called for strict action against sugar factories that fail to comply with statutory requirements.
The memorandum comes amid the continuing agitation by sugarcane farmers in Belagavi, who are pressing the government for fair prices and measures to address their financial difficulties.
