The deceased have been identified as Rehan Matte (22), Mohin Nalaband (23) and Sarfaraz Harappanahalli (22). Shahanawaz (19), who was sleeping in the same room, survived but remains in critical condition.

According to police, the room had no windows, and the door was locked from the inside. The youths had also lit mosquito coils along with the charcoal stove, causing heavy smoke accumulation. Officials suspect suffocation due to oxygen depletion.
The incident came to light on Tuesday evening when the parents broke open the door after the youths did not respond. Belagavi North MLA Asif (Raju) Sait visited the spot to review the situation.
The Malmaruti Police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.
