Belagavi May Host Karnataka Monsoon Session in July

Belagavi: Karnataka’s monsoon session of the state legislature is likely to be held in Belagavi for the first time this year. Belagavi has been hosting the Karnataka Legislature’s winter session since 2006, with legislative proceedings traditionally conducted for around 15 days in the city before shifting back to Bengaluru. However, the state government is now considering a major change by organising the monsoon session in Belagavi instead.

District authorities have reportedly begun preliminary preparations and consultations ahead of the proposed session. Officials believe hosting the session in Belagavi during the monsoon season could provide lawmakers with an opportunity for detailed discussions on pressing issues such as heavy rainfall, flood management, drought conditions, and regional development concerns.

Horatti said the session would mainly focus on problems faced by North Karnataka and Kalyana Karnataka regions. He added that several long-pending issues affecting these regions could be discussed and resolved more effectively during the session.

If finalised, the move will mark a significant political and administrative step for Belagavi, further strengthening its role as an important legislative centre in Karnataka outside Bengaluru.
