Union Minister for Food and Public Distribution, Shri Pralhad Joshi, chaired a high-level meeting to discuss enhancing railway services for Belagavi. South Western Railway General Manager Shri Arvind Srinivas, Belagavi MP Jagadish Shettar, and other key officials participated.

Extension of Bengaluru-Dharwad Vande Bharat Express
A major highlight of the discussion was the public demand to extend the Bengaluru-Dharwad Vande Bharat Express to Belagavi. Shri Jagadish Shettar emphasized that this extension is crucial to meeting the region’s transportation needs. Officials stated they could adjust the schedule slightly to make this extension feasible.
Permanent Daily Train Service Between Belagavi and Miraj
The officials discussed making the daily Belagavi-Miraj train service permanent. They also proposed upgrading this service to a MEMU train for better efficiency and convenience.
Proposal for a New Railway Line
Shri Shettar emphasized the need to construct a new railway line connecting Lokapur, Ramadurg, Savadatti, and Dharwad. Officials recommended conducting an immediate feasibility survey to expedite this project.
Assurances from Railway Officials
Shri Arvind Srinivas, South Western Railway GM, assured that he would take prompt and favorable action on all the proposals discussed.
Belagavi South MLA Shri Abhay Patil also participated in the meeting. He stressed the importance of improving railway connectivity for the region’s development.
