Bailhongal, Belagavi: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to recognize Kittur Rani Chennamma’s samadhi in Bailhongal taluk, Belagavi, as a nationally important monument under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, Siddaramaiah highlighted Rani Chennamma’s pivotal role in resisting British rule, making her one of India’s earliest female freedom fighters. He emphasized the historical and cultural significance of the site and urged the central government to grant it national monument status.

According to the Chief Minister, this recognition would not only honor her legacy but also help boost cultural tourism and educate future generations about her contributions. Declaring the samadhi a national monument would ensure better preservation, promotion, and awareness of Rani Chennamma’s remarkable fight for independence.

The request comes as part of Karnataka’s ongoing efforts to safeguard and celebrate historical landmarks that played a key role in India’s freedom struggle.
