₹28 Crore Spent on Belagavi Winter Session: RTI Activist

The Karnataka legislature’s 10-day Winter Session opened today in Belagavi, with more than 30 Bills slated for introduction. The headline proposal is the Karnataka Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention and Control) Bill, 2025, which has already sparked a political row, with the BJP alleging it could be used to target Opposition leaders.

Other major Bills expected this session include the Karnataka Social Boycott Bill, amendments to the Greater Bengaluru governance framework, the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, Cine Cultural Activities Act, and the Karnataka Rent Act.

Meanwhile, tensions are high around the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha as several groups — including sugarcane farmers, Panchamashali leaders, anganwadi workers, Kuruba community representatives, and nomadic communities — stage protests to push their respective demands.

The BJP has also announced a protest on December 9, accusing the State government of neglecting farmers’ issues.
