Opposition Plans a Strong Offensive
The BJP–JD(S) alliance is preparing to corner the government on multiple fronts. Their key issues include:
- Alleged failures across various departments
- Reports of mobile phones and illicit liquor entering prisons
- The controversy surrounding Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar’s luxury watch purchase
- The “chair fight” row
- Delays in flood relief and concerns over the TB Dam water release
- Sugarcane farmers’ hardships and demands for more procurement centres
- Lack of adequate grants for Kalyana Karnataka
- Long-standing issues of the North Karnataka region
Adding to the tension, JD(S) MLA Sharangouda Kandakur publicly expressed his displeasure ahead of the session, posting that he welcomed the government to Belagavi “with a heavy heart.”
Government Prepares Counterpoints
The ruling Congress has finalised its own strategy. It plans to highlight:
- Steps already taken to support sugarcane farmers
- Alleged fund discrimination by the Union Government
- Internal conflicts within the BJP
- Progress in key development projects
- Priority to pass pending legislation, including the Hate Speech Bill
With both sides ready for an intense confrontation, the Winter Session is expected to be one of the most heated in recent years.
