Belagavi police have busted a major illegal liquor smuggling operation and seized 900 boxes of Goa-made liquor during a raid conducted by the Malamaruti Police Station team.

Acting on credible information, police intercepted a truck transporting liquor without valid documents and arrested the driver on the spot. Preliminary investigation revealed that around 7,000 liters of liquor, valued between ₹25–30 lakh, was being illegally transported.
According to City Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase, the liquor was suspected to be smuggled into Maharashtra in view of the upcoming elections. Further investigation is underway to determine the source of the liquor and its intended destination.
