Belagavi, June 15: BJP MP Jagadish Shettar has said that he will discuss with the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and corporators the issue of passing a resolution in the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) council declaring Belagavi as an integral part of Karnataka.

Speaking to reporters in Belagavi, Mr. Shettar said that Belagavi has always been and will continue to remain an integral part of Karnataka, irrespective of whether such a resolution is passed in the municipal corporation.
He noted that the municipal council has sought the State government’s opinion on the matter and clarified that the BJP is not indulging in language politics. He stressed that Kannada and Marathi-speaking communities have been living together harmoniously in the region for decades.
“We are not sacrificing the interests of Kannadigas for votes. Marathi-speaking people are not outsiders; they are Indians,” Mr. Shettar said.
Appealing for unity, the BJP leader urged people not to create divisions on linguistic lines and instead focus on the overall development of Belagavi. He called on all sections of society to work together for the city’s progress and prosperity.
