During a meeting in New Delhi on April 18, Shettar said the land is required for constructing a separate taxiway to improve airport operations. He noted that the district administration has already agreed to provide alternative land of equal value to the Air Force, but alleged that local Air Force authorities have not responded, potentially affecting airport functioning if delays continue.
Shettar also raised concerns over the Belgaum Cantonment Board’s decision to lease around 6,045 sq. ft. of land for setting up a new flower market without consulting elected representatives or obtaining necessary permissions. He pointed out that an existing flower market is already operational at Ashok Nagar and said the new proposal could harm local traders.

The MP urged the Defence Minister to intervene, cancel the permit for the proposed market, and ensure that public representatives are consulted in such decisions.
Rajnath Singh assured Shettar that he would look into both issues and direct the concerned authorities to take appropriate action.
