Belagavi: Preparations for Ganeshotsav are gaining momentum across Belagavi as artisans put the final touches on idols ahead of the festival beginning on September 14.

To avoid heavy traffic congestion during idol processions, Belagavi city police have permitted the early arrival of large Ganesha idols between September 10 and 12. More than 3,500 public Ganesh mandals are active across the district, including over 500 under the Belagavi Police Commissionerate.
Police Commissioner Prakash Amrit Nikam said security arrangements and traffic management would be strengthened during the celebrations. The maximum height of Ganesha idols has been capped at 18 feet.
Police have also warned rowdy-sheeters to maintain peace during the festival, while action may be taken over the use of DJs. Organisers have been advised to conduct processions without causing inconvenience to the public.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board has urged artisans and organisers to choose clay idols and water-based paints. Officials have warned against the manufacture and use of Plaster of Paris idols and chemical-based materials.
