Belagavi: Excise police conducted a major operation and seized a tanker allegedly transporting illegal spirit in Khanapur taluk of Belagavi district.

The raid was carried out on the Jamboti-Kankumbi road, where officials intercepted the tanker and found around 14,000 litres of spirit being transported illegally for sale.
The tanker driver, identified as Siddaraju Puttaswamy Shetty (47), has been issued a notice under Section 35(3) of the BNSS Act 2023 and directed to appear for further investigation. Police have launched a search to trace and arrest the vehicle owner.
During the operation, officials seized:
- Spirit worth ₹14 lakh
- A mobile phone worth ₹1,500
- A tanker worth ₹21 lakh
The total value of the seized property is estimated at ₹35.01 lakh.
A case has been registered at the Khanapur Excise Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
