Commission chairperson Murthy L, speaking at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha, said the panel has received a large number of complaints, with nearly 3,850 cases currently under investigation out of around 4,500 pending applications. He noted that land allotted to SC/ST beneficiaries is often embroiled in legal disputes, forcing recipients into prolonged court battles.

Murthy also alleged improper utilisation of funds under the Special Component Plan (SCP) and Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP), and highlighted the lack of basic amenities for civic workers and shortage of hostels for Scheduled Caste students.

The commission has taken serious note of delays in registering atrocity cases and alleged negligence by officials in addressing SC/ST grievances. It has directed that details of works under SCP-TSP funds be made public and contracts awarded as per norms.

He added that issues concerning the Hakki-Pikki community and flood-affected Dalit families will be brought to the chief minister’s attention. The commission will submit a comprehensive report to the government after completing its statewide tour.
