A comprehensive inspection conducted across the district revealed contamination in water sources in all 15 taluks. Out of 78,392 samples collected from 1,369 villages, 949 were found unsafe for consumption. Officials noted that borewells were the most affected, mainly due to excessive groundwater extraction.

Athani recorded the highest number of contaminated sources, followed by Bailhongal and Raibag. Authorities have stepped up tanker supply and activated multi-village water schemes to ensure uninterrupted access to safe drinking water.

Residents have been urged to avoid using contaminated sources and follow official advisories, while efforts are underway to implement long-term solutions and strengthen water quality monitoring.
