The Gaze of Pillars!

KAMAL BASTI - EAST BELGAUM VOL.1

Kamal basti is situated within the walls of Belgaum fort and it is built by bichirja minister of kartavirya 4th of ratta dynasty in 1204 AD . there are two jain temple built at that time and the style used was of chalukya style and kamal basti is one of them.  The main highlights of this historical monument is the two pillars on which there are scripts written on it in kannada, on one pillar they have written about the king kartavirya of ratta dynasty  from 1199 and on second pillar they have written about the king sevuna Krishna form 1261. Kamal Basti is an well built and executed masterpiece. Here  we can see a beautifully built lotus of 72 petals  on the ceiling which is still in a perfect shape and details on it are just amazing. 

There is another Jain temple outside the Kamal Basti which is know as Chikki Basti. This historical monument is ruined and it  was also built in the same time of Kamal Basti . Belgaum fort as given us the huge amount exposure in providing us the information of the  beauty of historical monuments and let us know more about it and for our coming generation.
