Belagavi, June 1: Khanapur police have arrested eight individuals in connection with a highway robbery in which travellers were allegedly robbed at gunpoint while travelling to Goa. Police have recovered cash, gold ornaments, vehicles and weapons worth a total of ₹40.5 lakh.

According to police, the incident occurred on May 20 on the Uchwade-Bailur Road in Khanapur taluk. The victims were travelling in a car when their vehicle was intercepted by two cars. The assailants allegedly threatened them with a firearm and escaped with ₹1 lakh in cash and 225 grams of gold.
During the investigation, police uncovered an alleged conspiracy involving two of the travellers, who are accused of planning the robbery with the help of local associates. Based on technical and field investigations, officers tracked down and arrested eight suspects connected to the crime.
The recovered property includes ₹1 lakh cash, 205 grams of gold worth around ₹27 lakh, three cars, a motorcycle, a country-made pistol, a knife and several mobile phones. Police said the total value of the seized items is estimated at ₹40.5 lakh.

Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan said the investigation is continuing and further details are expected to emerge as the probe progresses.
