The allocation comes at a time when the corporation has been facing a steady decline in funds from the State Finance Commission, impacting several development works across the city. Officials said the newly sanctioned funds are expected to revive pending projects and accelerate infrastructure development.

A significant portion of the grant is likely to be utilised for road repair and improvement works. The funds may also be directed towards strengthening essential civic amenities, including water supply, drainage systems, and other basic infrastructure.

Sources indicated that corporators could receive ward-wise allocations to address local development needs and long-pending public grievances.

In recent years, BCC has struggled with a financial crunch, which has delayed multiple projects and payments to contractors. Nearly Rs 8 crore in dues for works carried out under the 15th Finance Commission remain unpaid, leading to dissatisfaction among contractors.

The approval of funds has been welcomed by civic leaders, including Mayor Preeti Kamkar and Deputy Mayor Hanumant Kongali, who said the grant would help fast-track development works, especially road improvement projects undertaken over the past few years.
