Belagavi: Despite receiving 4% below-normal monsoon rainfall, Belagavi district has achieved 95% of its sowing target, covering 7.16 lakh hectares against the planned 7.52 lakh hectares, making it the top-performing district in Karnataka for overall sowing this season.

According to the district administration, Belagavi received 341 mm of rainfall against the normal 354 mm during the current monsoon. Even with the slight shortfall, farmers have completed sowing across most of the planned agricultural area.
Several crops have exceeded their sowing targets, including sugarcane (102.04%), soybean (111.8%), green gram (115.2%), and black gram (114.6%). However, crops such as paddy, cotton, cowpea, and millets remain below their respective targets.
Among the taluks, Savadatti (105%), Bailhongal (104%), Kittur (100%), and Nippani (100%) recorded the highest sowing progress. Other taluks also reported strong performance, with most achieving over 90% of their targets.
District officials confirmed there is no shortage of seeds or fertilisers. Of the 37,543 quintals of seeds required for the season, 37,267 quintals were stocked, with more than 31,600 quintals already distributed. Fertiliser supplies have also exceeded demand, ensuring uninterrupted agricultural operations.
Officials said favourable weather conditions and adequate agricultural inputs have boosted farmer confidence, raising hopes for a good harvest this season. Belagavi continues to lead Karnataka in total sowing area during the current monsoon.
