The 73-km railway line, envisioned to improve connectivity between Belagavi, Dharwad, and Hubballi, requires a total of 1,436 acres, with nearly 90% of the land located in Belagavi district. Officials said land acquisition in Dharwad district is also nearing completion.
Authorities from the district administration, Revenue Department, Public Works Department, and the Railways worked in coordination to expedite the process.

A compensation package of around ₹300 crore has been sanctioned for affected landowners. Of this, approximately ₹60 crore has already been credited directly to farmers’ bank accounts, with the remaining amount expected to be disbursed soon.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan said the acquisition process was completed in a record span of about four months. He acknowledged initial resistance from some farmers over alignment concerns but said they were eventually convinced to accept compensation under the new land acquisition Act.
Civil work on the railway line is expected to commence by December.
