Belagavi, June 3: The quarterly meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (Disha) for 2026-27 was held at Suvarna Vidhana Soudha on Tuesday, with MPs Jagadish Shettar, Priyanka Jarkiholi and Rajya Sabha member Iranna Kadadi participating.

The meeting reviewed key issues including drinking water and drought management, monsoon preparedness, agricultural activities, availability of seeds and fertilisers, school infrastructure and student enrolment in government schools.
Chairing the meeting, MP Jagadish Shettar stressed the need for effective implementation of the Centre’s flagship Jal Jeevan Mission, aimed at providing tap water connections to every rural household. He said securing central assistance would be easier if detailed proposals are submitted to the concerned ministries. Officials informed the meeting that delays in the release of central funds have affected project implementation.
In the education sector, officials said 40 PM SHRI schools have been established in the district and are witnessing increasing demand, including from rural areas. Shettar urged officials to improve educational standards by following the models of Udupi and Mangaluru, known for their strong academic performance.
The MP also directed authorities to complete works under the Smart City project within the stipulated timeframe and expedite the distribution of certificates under the e-assets programme. He was also informed about measures being taken to monitor cooking oil and petrol stocks to prevent shortages in the district.
Rajya Sabha MP Iranna Kadadi called for wider publicity of programmes implemented under central government schemes and stressed that works under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak and Grampath schemes should be carried out according to the needs of individual taluks.

Zilla Panchayat CEO Rahul Shinde said several initiatives have been planned to improve educational outcomes in the district. He also urged banks to conduct awareness campaigns at the hobli level on loans and benefits available under state and central government schemes.
To tackle drinking water shortages, officials said arrangements have been made to drill 22 borewells in the Chikodi region, while a long-term plan has also been prepared to address the issue permanently.
Meanwhile, Horticulture Department Joint Director Mahantesh Murgod informed the meeting that sowing activities have remained limited due to insufficient rainfall.
Senior officials from various departments, including the district administration, police, agriculture and urban local bodies, were present at the meeting.
