Belagavi: The Belagavi City Police on June 25 destroyed narcotic drugs worth ₹57.78 lakh that had been seized in multiple cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The destroyed contraband included 24.131 kg of ganja worth approximately ₹10.76 lakh (15 cases), 120.083 grams of heroin valued at around ₹8.02 lakh (8 cases), and 13.945 kg of hashish worth nearly ₹39 lakh (1 case). In total, 38.197 kg of narcotic substances seized in 24 NDPS cases were disposed of.
The destruction was carried out scientifically and in accordance with legal procedures at Belgaum Green Environment Management Pvt. Ltd. in Harugoppa village of Savadatti taluk.

The disposal process was conducted in the presence of the Chairman of the Drugs Disposal Committee, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic), officers from the Crime Branch and CCRB, representatives of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Drug Control Department, Factory Inspectorate, and other officials.
Belagavi City Police said the disposal was carried out as per the provisions of the NDPS Act to ensure the safe and lawful destruction of seized narcotic substances.
