Belagavi: The city’s long-pending second fire station is yet to take shape despite the state government sanctioning Rs 10.4 crore for the project last year.

The proposed station is aimed at improving emergency response, particularly in North Belagavi, where rapid urbanisation, narrow roads, traffic congestion and growing residential and commercial developments have increased fire-safety concerns.
At present, the main fire station near the railway overbridge handles emergencies across the city as well as several villages in Belagavi taluk. Two other stations at Halga near Suvarna Vidhana Soudha and at Honaga operate around the city, but officials say they do not replace the need for a dedicated urban station in North Belagavi.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan said land has been identified at Ramtirth Nagar in the North Assembly constituency and procedures to initiate the work will begin shortly.
The new station is expected to reduce the pressure on the existing facility and strengthen Belagavi’s fire and emergency-response network.
