The event was organised by the Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Pravasi Sangh and the Kolhapur Railway Passengers Association, and was presided over by former MLA Malojiraje Chhatrapati. Speakers at the event also highlighted the long-pending issue of track doubling on the Miraj–Kolhapur section, stating that the project remains incomplete even after more than a century.

Addressing the gathering, Chhatrapati recalled the vision of Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj in bringing the railway line to Kolhapur despite the city being away from the main north-south corridor. He noted that the proposed Karad–Kolhapur–Belagavi line would significantly reduce travel distance between Pune and Bengaluru, which currently runs via a longer route through Miraj.

He also mentioned ongoing efforts to develop the Kolhapur–Vaibhavwadi rail link and said that improvement works at Kolhapur railway station have already begun. Speakers stressed that infrastructure upgrades, including track doubling, are essential for strengthening rail connectivity and supporting the region’s overall development.
