Did you know that Ratan Tata was honoured with a Doctorate in the field of Science by Belagavi’s very own Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU)? Yes, on February 10, 2009, Ratan Tata along with two other individuals were awarded a doctorate by Rameshwar Thakur, who was the Governor of Karnataka as well as the chancellor of VTU.
It is one of the proudest moment for Belgaumites to realise that one of many awards that are available in Mr. Ratan Tata’s shelf comes from Belagavi. Today Ratan Tata turns 83 years old.
He was born on 28th December 1937 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He completed his studies in the Cornell University College of Architecture and Harvard Business School through the Advanced Management Program.
He joined Tata company in 1961 and worked as staff till 1991 where he took over the company. Under his leadership, Tata tea acquired Tetley, Tata motors acquired Jaguar and Land Rover, Tata Steels acquired Corus.
Rumours say that he would be the richest man in India, which he is not due to his numerous charities that have helped upbringing of many. It is truly great to have a person like Ratan Tata around us.
